Legal notice

Your chimney will be swept/inspected by a professional chimney sweep who will follow HETAS code of practice.

On the visit we will only sweep your flue/chimney serving the appliance or opening. Your appliance/flue may not meet current standards and further checks and investigation may be required as to its safety and compliance to building regulations. The responsibility for ensuring compliance rests with the people/person who has conducted the work on your chimney and installed the appliance. If you have received a certificate of compliance for your installation it is not a complete guarantee of compliance with current standards and Building Regulations.

All services are carried out in good faith; brief visual inspections are carried out of the appliance and chimney, but due to the concealed nature of chimneys and associated appliances, information should not be relied upon as a guarantee that the appliance and/or chimney are safe and/or free of faults or issues related to age, misuse, or poor installation. We offer various levels of inspection services should concerns be raised at additional cost.

(Chimney Sweeping and Prices)

The chimney sweep will assume unless otherwise told by the homeowner or the person allowing entry into the property that the appliance is correctly and safely installed and is in a fit state to be swept. We offer various levels of inspection services should concerns be raised at additional cost.

Internal fire appliance boards/fire bricks are made of a porous or brittle material, Vermiculite fire boards are fragile and become more brittle over time as they wear. They are not covered by your manufactures warranty and for these reasons we cannot be responsible if they break. On most models we have to remove some of these parts to access the flue ways.

If a fault occurs during sweeping, this is not the fault of the sweep; for a chimney and items connected to the installation to be considered fit for use, it must be in such condition that it can be safely cleaned and evaluated. If damage is caused during sweeping, this suggests an underlying fault which simply was exposed by the sweeping process.

These preparation guidelines are to help us be as efficient as possible in our work and to make sure everything goes smoothly.

We always lay down a door mat inside the front door to wipe our feet on. We have waterproof floor runners and will make a walkway to your fireplace. If it’s a very wet day you can help by laying a trail of paper or sheets to the fireplace.

The area in front of the fireplace will be covered with a large Hearth Sheet to protect the floor and to give us a good working area. You can help by making sure this area is clear for us to work.

Please remove anything from the mantel and hearth area that will be in our way or is breakable or of value.

We will then bring in the industrial vacuum, so you can help by clearing the way to the fireplace.

Please clear the grate or stove fire box of any unburnt fuel. Its okay to have a fire the night before, but please make sure the fuel has completely burnt through, there should not be any hot coals or smouldering wood left.

When the brush passes through the pot it can take a lot of soot with it, If you have washing on the line, or anything outside that may mark, please move it.

Pre-installation sweep & CCTV inspection.

You will need to arrange this before the day of your installation, you can use our services, or you can arrange this with a competent sweep who must leave a written report. We charge an additional cost for this service. The flue that the chimney liner will be installed into needs to be sound throughout its length. A chimney liner is only temporary and is designed to last the life of your new appliance. Should it fail for any reason, your existing flue needs to safely contain the products of combustion until the fire in your appliance goes out. A pre-installation sweep is a lot more intense than a normal sweep. This is to make sure that there are no deposits left in your old flue such as tar or nesting material that the new liner could touch and ignite. It’s also to make sure there are no obstructions that will stop or damage the new liner when it is installed. It also helps enable us to see any faults in your flue with the CCTV camera. You will have to bear the cost of any remedial works if they are required such as breaking into the flue to clear a blockage or making good breaches in the flue. Our sweep or installer will quote for this if its within their remit or advise you who can do the works.
